QUIZNO'S poll results:

There's already a bakery going in there and opening in October (boy, does Y. feel stupid. I'd seen the bakery signs but thought it was one door down for some reason). 21% 5 out of 23
Korean food restaurant/sushi bar 20% 5 out of 24
gun store (Y.'s favorite answer) 18% 3 out of 16
small grocery store 12% 3 out of 24
hip novelty shop a la Ann Arbor's Acme Mercantile 8% 2 out of 24

New poll up! Let your voice be heard!

Do you have more info on the bakery? Will it be a traditional bakery? (Large scale, small?)

Will it keep "bakers hours", i.e. open early closed early. Will it offer seating?

I wonder if anyone knows. I am very excited about the prospect of walking down to Depot Town for still-warm bread and cookies.

I don't know--but I hope it will offer something radically different from the bakery next to the co-op or Terri's on Michigan Ave--so as not to injure those shops' sales.

Mebbe it'll be one of those fancy, fashionable new cupcake shops.

i was at a festival in saline this weekend, and the sign on the queen of hearts bakery indicated that it was the one moving in. i've never been there, but if anyone has, that's what it'll be. cupcakes - yum. meredith

Oh, that's interesting. I didn't realize they were moving from Saline. Their website indicates that they're an upscale bakery. They also do wedding cakes, "special order pastries" (sardine-cheese puffs?) and occasion cakes.

from here:

Preparing your wedding cake
All cake layers, fillings and icings are made from scratch using the finest and freshest ingredients available. For a Saturday wedding, your cake is assembled Thursday afternoon then chilled overnight of set the filling (Bavarian cream, chocolate mousse etc.). The cake is decorated on Friday. This timeline allows a full day for decoration - some designs are quite time-consuming. Your cake is then refrigerated until the time of delivery.

Oh, my--look at these photos! Y. has never seen a fuzzier coconut cake.

Ooh, the princess cake is so pretty & dainty. And it's covered with (drool) marzipan!

Oh WOW, Queen of Hearts is moving to Ypsilanti!?! Our gain is definitely Saline's loss. Many friends at my workplace have been satisfied customers.

I don't think the space will be a retail shop. I believe, that they only do orders and the space will simply be the kitchen.

Rebekah: Oh. My, her cakes are lovely. A real master. They'd make an elegant statement at any party.

I believe the owners of Queen of Hearts have some connection with The Ugly Mug. They own it and their son runs it, maybe? (Oh, for a better memory.) Also, I see the Queen of Hearts car driving around my neighborhood all the time and I'm told they live somewhere around here. So, it makes sense for them to both live AND work in Ypsi.
