CALL FOR POLL QUESTIONS: Yesterday a kind reader sent a great penny query which is today's poll. One kind reader made a new, write-in answer, (which this poll type allows you to do), which rocketed to the most popular answer! It's very fun to watch. What would you like tomorrow's question to be? Leave your question here, or if you're painfully shy like Esteemed Y., you can just email it to ypsidixit(at)gmail.com.

Should the
city of Ypsi seek grant $ to convert the old Motor Wheel site into an R.V. Park?

Excellent! Thanks, Old Goat!

All questions welcome--let's build up a stockpile! Quixotic, odd, irrelevant, trivial, and quirky questions encouraged.

Incidentally, Old Goat, have you ever seen the Mobile Home Park that Time Forgot, just off Michigan Ave. by that bait shop? Nearish to Value World.

Have walked the dog through it. Spooky back there.

Hm, I'd thought Motor Wheel was still in use. They keep, or, last time I checked, kept a guard there who eyed me as I semi-innocently biked around back there (trying to find out what was going on in the building).

Someone told me they do high-level secret testing in there, which may be an urban legend.

Poll idea: Favorite Ypsilanti landmark

Posted by: Teaspout at 16 augustus 2006 15:24

Teaspout: That is an outstanding idea! Thank you! I bet there will be lots of write-in answers for that one!

Should Ypsilanti break up the horrid broken concrete plains along River Street and re-establish the Michigan Central Gardens? Oh, and hire me to care for them!

MNL: that's another fine idea; thank you! "Broken concrete plains" sounds like a phrase from the song "Ypsilanti Vigilante."

Motor Wheel is in use, yes; it's owned by an LLC and used as a staging area for just-in-time suppliers to area GM plants. (Trucks come in, unload, parts are rearranged and reloaded on to trucks for delivery to the assembly plant in the right order, and only as needed.) Not nearly the entire MW structure or site are used for this.

It had previously, at one point, been used for jet engine testing, I think.

Maybe a "what would be the best use of the Motor Wheel site?" as a more open-ended question that "should Motor Wheel be used for x?" Maybe we could come up with a business plan that would allow us to buy out the current owners?

Best use of the Motor Wheel site? A minor league baseball stadium. Home run balls landing in the Huron. After-game celebrations at the Corner Brewery.
