Let it rain, let it pour
Let it rain a whole lot more, cause
I got them deep river blues,
Let the rain drive right on
Let the waves sweep along, cause
I got them deep river blues.
My old gal's a good old pal,
And she looks like a water fowl, when
I get them deep river blues,
Ain't no one to cry for me,
And the fish all go out on a spree when
I get them deep river blues.
Give me back my old boat
I'm gonna sail if she'll float, cause
I got them deep river blues,
I'm goin' back to Mussel Shoals,
Times are better there I'm told, cause
I got them deep river blues.
Let it rain, let it pour
Let it rain a whole lot more, cause
I got them deep river blues,
Let the rain drive right on
Let the waves sweep along, cause
I got them deep river blues.
If my boat sinks with me
I'll go down, don't you see, cause
I got them deep river blues,
Now I'm gonna say good-bye
'N if I sink, just let me die, cause
I got them deep river blues.
Let it rain, let it pour
Let it rain a whole lot more, cause
I got them deep river blues,
Let the rain drive right on
Let the waves sweep along, cause
I got them deep river blues.

I have not seen the river so high or angry in a long time. Seems like just a placid little river. But at times like this it shows its lethal strength.

When we drove home last night at 7 PM, the streets were so full that we were greeted by a small cresting WAVE at the corner of Sherman and Elm Streets. Don't think I've ever experienced tidal conditions in my SUMMIT Street area neighborhood. Can't imagine how it was in low-lying areas.
I am so glad I watered the gardens this morning, before the big rain. Thus, my soil & veggies were all primed to receive it.

I have to laugh at the thought of a wave cresting on the street. I was struck by the speed and power of the river. Wouldn't have wanted to try and wade across, though that is no problem usually in late summer.

p.s. I too was glad of the good soaking for the gardens.
The river was about a foot lower than depicted here this morning as viewed from the Cross St. Bridge at 7:50.

It sure was a good rain though. I enjoyed sitting in my front room and watching the street turn into a river.

I always love rain, and enjoyed it too.

This means I have to mow again. As soon as it stops raining. I should be out mowing right now.

Which reminds me--[public service announcement]--there's still time to order the Prison Reel Mower for local reel mower enthusiasts' birthdays! Their August birthdays! Their August 7 birthdays!
"Mow like you've been convicted!"
