YPSIDIXIT and the adventurous friend tried out the Cross St. coney island last evening. It was dirt cheap *AND*--they put a whole squeezy-bottle full of ranch dressing on the table for my "Albanian Salad"! I felt as though I was back in old Albania as I submerged the lettuce, eggs, tomato, cheese, and olives in an ocean of dressing, as the more abstemious AF looked on in horror. Any joint that gives me dressing control is aces by me. I nearly emptied the ENTIRE BOTTLE OF DRESSING. Heck, life is short. Add dressing! The AF had pancakes, pronouncing them "OK."

The only drawback was that they had the teevee turned up to ear-crushing volumes. But having the dressing on the table more than compensated for that.

I was told some time ago that the cony island onn Cross St. was open 24 hours, and eating there at three in the morning was something not to be missed. At that hour, I was told, a whole new crowd of people are to be found there. This, my friend said, was something not to be missed. Then he added, do not go ther alone. I ahve never had the nerve to dine there, no matter what the hour. I fear I am missing the finer things in life.

Are we talking about the double eagle?

Cross street is really cooking in general down here by EMU. Jimmy John's is coming soon, and there is the new mexican restaurant and mediterranean/hookah bar as well.

My son and I frequent the Double Eagle quite often. After a while of owning a sandwich shop, you get pretty tired of sandwiches. Since we dont have a fryer, the Double Eagle offers quite a contrast to our menu. My son always gets the chicken tenders, and I go between the chilli fries or one of the breakfasts. You definitely get plenty of food for the money. Being open 24 hours, makes it a nice stop on the way home after I close my store.

Listener: Depends on how you parse "finer," I guess. But I like it. Stop by and give it a whirl, Listener. Walk on the wild side.

Big Mike: To answer your question four months later...

yes.

Now that was worth waiting for.

Jim K: They have a big menu for a small spot. It's homey and comfy. I like the folks who hang out there.

AND, when I was there the other night with a fellow Albanian Salad connoisseur, the fry cook let us know, as he set the salads on our table, that he'd arranged our salads with great and artistic care.

He sternly commanded us to refrain from eating them for a moment and just admire them.

As two shy people, we meekly obeyed, glancing from salad to each other in mild alarm--and hunger!

The cook rejoined his friends in a booth. "OK, you can eat them now!" he called.

Ha! Ypsi neologism! The Deagle! Fun to learn this word--thank you, Chris.

Now I'm tremendously curious to know what exactly goes on there after 3:30 a.m...

"Always on the hunt for newbies" is vaguely....alarming/intriguing. :) :)

Thanks for stopping by, Chris!
