Who else is going to the Shadow Art Fair tomorrow? The afterparty at the Banana Tina should be excellent, too-- Chris Bathgate may be the best songwriter in the county right now.

I would love to. But will be working Saturday and possibly part of Sunday (production weekend). Phooey.

I'm trying to find out more about our mayoral candidates, and I’ve got a question about Steve Pierce. I figured since it looks like he reads this site and a number of readers know him, it’d be a good place to ask. I read on votepierce.com that he started hdl.com and so I figured finding out something about his company would be a good way to learn more about him, especially since his business expertise is one reason folks are telling me to vote for him.

Does anyone know if HDL.com is still active and what it does? The site looks outdated with postings from 1997-2001 on the homepage. Also, it lists a HQ in New Mexico but the contact
numbers are all 734 area code and the Mich office seems to be Pierce’s home. The address given for the New Mexico HQ looks like it’s listed as a used bookstore now and I can’t tell if HDL has any employees. Is this just an old site? Thanks to anyone who can offer insight.

Really? No can offer any insight?

Nobody will offer any insight. The only thing called "insightful" here is if someone says they love steve pierce. that's considered insightful.

Keep looking into it, though, as you'll find out some interesting things. i promise.

HDL is very much a going concern. I started the company in New Mexico in 1987. That used bookstore you refer to is actually Don's Books. One of the oldest Bookstores in New Mexico that is my families business for some 30+ years. I started working in the bookstore when I was in 4th grade.

You are right, the HDL website is quite dated, I am always wanting to update it but never had time. Sort of like the Cobbler's kids who has no shoes. I am hoping that after the campaign I can get back to releasing a new website for HDL. I have some cool ideas but just haven't gotten around to do it.

In fact I am meeting today with a web designer to talk about the HDL website and a couple of other projects.

HDL host websites and email services for a wide variety of customers literally all over the world. I have been doing the Internet business since 1993 which in the on-line world is a very long time.

One of the things I am most proud about is the service that HDL provides for free to the community. I believe strongly in giving back to the community and HDL will host most any community group, neighborhood association, little league team, boy scouts, church group or other group for free. HDL hosts websites for a Boys Choir in California that takes music into schools and many more. HDL hosts a number of websites even here in Ypsi. HDL hosts the DDA website for no charge since 2001, HDL hosted the Housing Commission website and email for no charge for well over two years. HDL hosts the Ypsilanti Heritage Foundation www.yhf.org website.

HDL currently host websites for four different neighborhood associations here in the city. We provide free DNS services for one of the oldest free email packages on the Net, Pegasus Mail. Oh yeah, we host the Ypsilanti CoPAC website as well. Plus a bunch more.

HDL also just installed a free wireless service at the Oasis Cafe in Downtown Ypsilanti. So stop in a check out the service and grab something to eat and support a local business.

I also own ypsi.com and offer folks a free email address if you live or work here in the city.

People have asked what does HDL stand for, not a thing. When I created the company in 1987 every computer company had initials. DEC, IBM, HP, NBI and many more. So I picked three letters to make up the name. Turns out HDL is the good cholestorol. LDL is the bad. Glad I didn't name the company LDL.

So that is a little about HDL.

Cheers!

- Steve

Water Street is broken.

Don't fix it.

Steve, thanks for the info. I figured this was a good place to ask.

Brett, what interesting things?

Always good that Steve can be counted on for substance.
