AATA Refuses to Raise Rates

Last night the AATA board refused to raise rates to $1.25. The boildown is that Ypsi is no longer paying for bus service, at all, beginning in 2007. I don't expect the AATA to continue service to a city that, unlike all the other participating municipalities, refuses to pay.

One thing you can do about this is sign our petition to reserve .65 mils annually for bus service until a regional millage is passed. The petition will be at the Farmer's Market on Saturday, or email me. Help us preserve monies to secure future bus service for our neighbors.

When I saw the paper today my jaw dropped, more out of just simple reality than shock, because I wasn't really sure if it was a surprise or not that AATA didn't agree with the fare increase

Craziness, good luck with the petition drive, when do all the petition signatures have to be turned in for it to be on the ballot?

This is a stunning development. With the Ypsilanti City Council already poised to cut the funding for two routes (3 and 5) at the June council meeting, and then at the last council meeting, the city spent $27,000 to hire a consultant to write a report on what is wrong with the Freighthouse, someone should be asking our elected officials, what is going to be done to keep the buses rolling?
