ELEVENTH-HOUR SAVE: Quick, jack up the rotted sill beam. Shove the entire ginormous building north, just a wee bit, to keep the floor joists from falling out of the mortices. Pour new cement footers *under* the existing stone wall--somehow. Examine the Pittsfield Township Historical Society's arduous barn restoration, with plenty of enlargeable pictures including some of its original dilapidated condition. The barn belongs to the six-generation sesquicentennial Sutherland Farm, whose exquisite house didn't have electricity or indoor plumbing till 1958.
