YPSI-D. IS THIRTY-EIGHT IN SIXTEEN DAYS.
She splurged upon a present in which to laze
long summer afternoons away, her fishing pole in hand,
Bedazzled by the Huron's beauty: verdant, pure, and grand.

Y. did research on kayaks and kayak bike trailers. Very costly. This item, which "fits in a small car's trunk" will likely fit, by hook or by crook, on my bike. It inflates with a handy foot pedal resembling a fire bellows. Can you imagine the hours upon hours of fun and exercise that this marvelous craft will give? Could there be anything better than tying up to an overhanging tree and fishing away the afternoon, half-asleep under a straw hat in the sun?
No. I feel very lucky to be able to have such a cool craft. Should ship next week, possibly in time for next weekend.

Congrats! And a fine boat, if I may say so.
I just turned 38 a little over one month ago. It's not too bad an age, but it does feel kind of in-between for some hard to grasp reason. Hmmmm.
Happy B-day in 16 days!

That is kind of you, trusty getto. Thank you.
Yes, it does feel curiously in-between. A lot of self-examination going on.
I had the good fortune to make a new friend today of a person I'd admired for a long time. That made me reassess things. I realized that friends are one's riches, and that one may count one's true wealth in the friends one has had the good fortune to attract, not in one's possessions or social status. Maudlin, saccharine, but true.
I'll be fishin'-nappin' on the Huron for the rest of the summer weekends, until further notice. Unreachable by cell phone, telegraph, letter, email, semaphore, or text message. :)

p.s. please let me wish you a happy belated birthday, trusty getto. Hope it was a fun one.

Happy Upcoming Birthday, Laura. I have been reading your blog only since December, and you have shown me there is still intelligent life in our universe. Some seem to have blogs to demonstrate that they are clever or popular. Some people go so far as to join strange blog clubs so that they can attract superficial comments from across the country in a popularity contest. Your entries reflect a genuine interest in local history, geography, politics, and culture. Your comments ring true. I hope more new friends, fishing, and boating adventures cross your path in these upcoming months. You deserve it.

Happy early birthday. That boat looks cool but I have to admit I am wondering how well it will do on the bike. Still, I suppose it isnt far to the river and once there, well, spending the day lazing around on such a craft sounds heavenly.

I am taken aback by the kindness evident in Ingrid's and Lynne's thoughtful comments. Thank you for leaving your valued thoughts. I am humbled by your kind wishes. I hope to keep providing blog-content that interests you. Thank you for your valued comments. (Ypsidiixit counts her many blessings).

Let me also say happy birthday, and at the risk of sounding paternalistic...you do have a life vest or other PFD, don't you?
Posted by: Shupac at 23 juli 2005 10:45
I do not. That item is on my list to pick up, though (and you don't sound paternalistic, just savvy). A must-have.

Sheriff's deputies patrol parts of the Huron - one hassled me last summer. Make sure you have a life vest (you don't have to wear it) a fishing licence, no obvious open intoxicants (dump your drink of choice into something opaque) and a flashlight if you are out at dusk or dawn.
I was fishing at night, and he was trying hard to bust me for something. By a total stroke of luck, I had all the bases covered.

That is good advice. I'll pick up a PFD. I have a fishing license that I keep stashed permanently in my fishing bag. Bought it online, in fact; it was very easy. And I have thermoses. Thanks for the tip LF.

Having been 38 for almost a month now, I can say it isn't bad at all. You seem to be happy in your life, which is really the important thing. The best comment anyone ever said to me about a birthday was the day I turned 30 and one of the older professors I worked with at the time looked at me and said "hmmm, 30--you are just starting to get interesting." Every year since then I feel like I get a little more interesting. It is a good feeling.
